Modern Day Mod Hairstyles Showcased at Pro Hair Live
The 2013 Pro Hair Live show in Manchester saw Christian once again take the Matrix stage in his role as one of the official Matrix artistic team members. Christian has been an active part of the Matrix artistic and education team for almost a decade, showcasing his expertise and excellence through delivering Matrix training alongside the live hairdressing shows and demonstrations.
This year, Christian collaborated with fellow Matrix artistic team member Scott Green from Devizes to transport ’60s Mod hairstyles into the future with Modern Day Mod hairstyles.
Christian said “Scott and I collaborated together in advance of the event. We took inspiration from the Louis Vuitton Spring Summer collection at Paris Fashion week. We noticed this move towards a revival of the ’60s but whereas a beehive your Nan would wear would be high and bouffant, we moved our backcombed hair downwards to create a modern day feel. Our aim with this collection remains true to my firm belief that everything I showcase has to have commercial value. I want my models to be that elegant fusion of catwalk meets high street. Not something too outlandish, not too avant garde, but a hairstyle and concept or trend that people will actually wear themselves in their everyday lives”.
After casting the right models for this look, Christian and Scott started off with mood boards for both Jenni and Christy-Anne. This allowed them to discuss ideas, latest and upcoming trends, inspiration from historical hairstyles and create the right fashion for their models to compliment their hairstyles.
Ahead of Pro Hair Live, Christian Wiles coloured both models’ hair with Matrix Colour Insider – a permanent hair dye that contains no ammonia delivering the maximum amount of colour with minimum damage. Christy-Anne’s hair was coloured using rich browns from the mocha palette whilst Jenni’s vibrant red hair colour was selected from the Matrix range of copper hair hues.
Christy-Anne’s hair showed us the fascinating effect of curls created using two curling wands of differing widths to achieve her all over volumised curls.
Jenni’s hair was backcombed and secured at the nape in a low ponytail – a very on trend hairstyle for 2013. The contrast of the long sleek ponytail and the messy bouffant hair towards the back of the head really set the tone for this modern day Mod hairstyle. Christian used precision cutting techniques to ensure the ends of Jenni’s ponytail were razor sharp and as precise as possible. Matrix Mega Dust was used on both models to emphasise the lift and backcombed effect and both hairstyles were sealed with the excellent Matrix Hair Lock Hairspray.
