How To Achieve The Perfect Blow-dry At Home

You’ve a special occasion coming up and there’s no time to get to the salon?

Whether it’s an important job interview, a Sunday christening or a highly anticipated night out, we understand that there are times when you want to look your best but a trip to your local hairdressers just doesn’t fit into your schedule.  Here are some hints and tips that you can use to help you achieve that impressive blow-dry!

There is no secret, as professionals, we invest time and energy in researching the finest hair products that will guarantee the best results for specific hair types so, if you’re thinking of going it alone on the hairstyling for a special occasion, we recommend you speak with your trusted hairdresser.

Nothing rivals that feeling you get when you skip out the hairdressers after a fresh blow-dry and with the right tools, it is possible to recreate a bouncy, glossy style at home. First things first though, you’re going to need a quality hairdryer.  There are a mind-boggling number of hairdryers to choose from and so we asked Christian to give us his expert verdict!

‘I was recently introduced to Gamma Pui Aria Dual Ionic Hairdryer and, in my opinion, it’s one of the most advanced and effective tools that I could have the pleasure of working with.   I recommend this dryer to all my clients and my team as it’s ridiculously light-weight (so comfortable to use) and it uses a real concentrate of technology to ensure that both professional stylists and our customers can achieve outstanding results’

So what makes Gamma Pui Aria so special?

This hairdryer is one of a new generation that use Ionic technology to enhance the overall results on the hair.  The Ion generator has an on-off switch that controls the emission of negative ions depending on the result you wish to obtain on the hair.  If you switch on ION it will ensure you obtain hydrated, smooth hair and without static electricity or if you switch on O you will obtain volume and consistency.

What questions should you ask your hairdresser?

Find out which products they use to blow dry your hair, take advice from them on the best hairbrush and styling methods for your hair type and follow their lead.  If your hairdresser takes the time to section your hair, apply various styling lotions and spends 30 minutes blowdrying then I would recommend you use a similar method.  When your life is 24-7, it’s often difficult to find that extra 10 minutes for your hair however, if you want salon-worthy blow-drys, you need to commit that little extra.

Rough-dry?  Yes Or No?

Hair should be 50 to 60 percent dry before you start blow-drying.  Try to get as much moisture out as you can with a towel to minimise the amount of heat applied to your hair,  then use a dryer to rough dry the hair and finish with your hairdryer and brush to achieve that perfect finish.  *Curly and unruly hair may require you to intervene earlier with a brush.

For fine, thin and super-straight hair you need to become product savvy.  We recommend that you cleanse with Biolage Full Density Shampoo & Conditioner as this has been designed to plump up your tresses.  Biolage Full Density Thickening Spray Treatment should be sprayed onto damp towel dried hair from root to tip before rough drying at the root for lift.  To add that extra volume you should REMOVE THE NOZEL from your hairdryer and use a round brush to create volume.

If your hair is thick, we need to make it easy to blowdry and feed it with nourishment!  Use Biolage Hydrasource Shampoo & Hydrasource Conditioner to prepare the hair.  Next step is Miracle Creator 20, you should towel dry the hair and then apply multitasking hero-product which will leave your hair soft, whilst improving manageability and prime ready for styling. After reducing the amount of moisture in the hair by rough drying, use your hairdryer with a nozzle on for maximum control.

Embrace your curls and consider choosing the right products, preparation, and a little more patience!  Prepare curly/textured hair with Biolage RAW Nourish Shampoo & Conditioner:  this will add moisture to the hair and feed those moisture-starved, curly locks.   Ensure that when you use the conditioner the hair is combed through and always leave for 5 mins before rinsing (do not comb the hair through after rinsing as we don’t want to separate those curls or they will frizz !) Blot Dry the hair with a towel and then begin applying Biolage RAW Curl Defining Butter in 1/2 inch sections from root to tip in a twisting spiral motion.  You should then let the hair dry naturally (or lightly diffuse dry ) to keep the curl separated and defined.
